Lythe Pillay

Lythe Pillay is a South African track and field athlete who specialises in the 400 metres. Born on 25 February 2003 in Benoni, Gauteng, he has emerged as one of South Africa’s brightest sprinting talents and is widely regarded as part of the next generation of elite 400m runners.

Pillay first gained international recognition after winning the gold medal in the men’s 400m at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia. He has since represented South Africa at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games and has become a key member of South Africa’s successful 4x400m relay team.

Known for his powerful finishing speed and calm composure on the track, Lythe has consistently improved his times year after year. In 2024, he achieved a personal best of 44.33 seconds in the 400m, placing him among the fastest athletes in the world.

Beyond athletics, Pillay is also pursuing a BCom in Accounting, balancing his sporting career with his academic ambitions. His dedication, humility, and work ethic have made him an inspiration to many young South Africans.
